Hello all, my wife and I are planning out an itinerary to visit beautiful Switzerland in early September this year. We will be transferring from Paris to Bern (base 1) to Lucerne (base 2) to Zurich (base 3). We chose bases because we were saving a lot more by staying at an IHG hotels due to family discount. I am breaking down the rough draft of our itinerary, we welcome any feedback or suggestions as we try to map out our time in Switzerland. Please note that we won’t be doing long hikes and are mainly focused on trying to hit the main spots based on our likes/interests/musts from all the numerous things to do in Switzerland. This itinerary has made with constant research through different forums, upon using Google Maps to determine travel times, trying to find gondola times, etc. Yet, I think there is still a lot more to research and learn. Itinerary as follows:

    • Day 1 – Arrive in Bern around noon (store luggage) – train to Interlaken – stop by at Thun on the way back to Bern
    • Day 2 – Start early by train to Kandersteg for Oeschinensee (be done by or past noon), train to Lauterbrunnen and spend the rest of the day in nearby villages – Murren, Gimmelwald
    • Day 3 – Early start by train to Grindelwald for the activities – visit Jungfrau from there depending on the time
    • Day 4 – Transfer to Lucerne by catching early train – store luggage at the hotel – train to Engelberg for Mt. Titlis – be back to Lucerne to spend the evening
    • Day 5 – Early train to Schwyz – bus to Stoosbahn – Gondola to Fronalpstock or Klingenstock (haven’t decided on the viewpoint yet – back to Lucerne late noon – transfer to hotel near ZRH – visit Lindt Home (planning on booking the last slot)
    • Day 6 – Early flight back home from ZRH

We did cut off a lot of things since we have short time and focused only on what we really want to do while we’re there. Our fingers are crossed for any last moment weather changes, however, we look forward on any feedback or suggestions or tips that you can give us. Thank you.

    Hello

For public transport times in Switzerland do not rely on Google maps.  The fabulous journey planner SBB timetable (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/train/timetable/) covers all modes of public transport.   It covers the buses, boats, trams/streetcars, cable cars, funiculars …  as well as trains.

    Regards
    Roger
