Treno Gottardo via Bellinzona: Interrail, reservations and route
Georgina is traveling to Switzerland on September 8th and had to change her plans from taking the Gotthard Panorama Express to the Treno Gottardo due to timing issues. She is looking for advice on why this route isn't showing up in Interrail and whether reservations are needed for this train.
- Use the SBB site for accurate train planning in Switzerland.
- For the Treno Gottardo, no reservation is needed if you have an Interrail Pass, but you can reserve a seat for CHF 5 if desired.
- To avoid unnecessary connections, set your route to go via Göschenen in the SBB settings.

Hi there!
I’m travelling on the 8th September to Switzerland with Interrail.
Initially I was going to do the Gotthard Panorama Express but because the previous train doesn’t arrive on time I have to cancel it, so I will take the TrenoGottardo instead.
I was looking on the https://www.gotthard-panorama-express.ch/ and here it says it parts at 13:18 and lasts 3h24′, via Bellinzona.
Doubts:
- Do you know why this route doesn’t show up in Interrail with this train? Only if I put through Göschenen and it’s a longer route, but if I add via Bellinzona it doens’t show up…it gives me other trains instead. Maybe I’m not doing something well.
- I read in several places that with Interrail this train doesn’t need reservation, correct? On their site it shows the regular fare without discount.
Thanks!!
