Visiting the Lavaux vineyards from Montreux

    Dear Anna and Team

First of all, I would like to apologise for not replying my last post on time as I was travelling for work without connection.

Hopefully this would be my last post towards enquiry.

We’ve booked Golden Pass Panoramic Bell Epoque to Montreux. From there will visit Chateau de Chillon.

I heard that there is a famoust Vineyard. Will you please help me to understand how quickly we can visit from Montruex as we’ve never seen this vineyards.

What is the exact station name/Bus stop to reach there so that I can check with SBB apps? How far the Vineyard from station/bus stop.?

    Regards, Samir

    Hi Samir,

No need to apologise. We are here to help anyway.

You are probably referring to the Lavaux vineyards along the shores of Lake Geneva. The vineyards cover a 12km stretch and you can access it by public transport from various points. From Montreux, I prefer taking the train to St. Saphorin, then do a short hike to Rivaz (where there is a small museum called Vinorama). You can also take a train directly to Rivaz. I do recommend you include a short hike so you can enjoy the panoramic view of the lake from the vineyards.

    Thanks Anna

As I’ll travel with mother and daughter hence am afraid to opt for Hiking option

So we’ll go by train from Montreux to Rivaz.

Actually yesterday after posting the question, I thought we need to get down at Cully to visit Bourg-en-Lavaux (i.e Vineyards).

So are you suggesting to walk from Rivaz to Cully or we can get the vineyard with good view from Rivaz itself. We need to minimise the walking.

Also shall we take the bus or Train as I can see distance time almost same.

Which side we shall seat to get the best view.

    Regards, Samir

    Hello Samir,

Both are good destinations to stop and explore the Lavaux region. If you are coming from Montreux by train, Rivaz is first, then Cully. The walk from Rivaz to Cully, will take around an hour or so. If walking for this length of time is doable, it will give you lots of time to enjoy and take in the views . By train it is only ten minutes. You would probably want to be seated on the left hand side if taking the train.

Another option if are trying to minimise walking is to take the Lavaux Express tourist train. There are several routes to choose from. More information in the below link:

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hello Samir,

    You have researched well 🙂

Just so I am reading your plans correctly, between arriving at Chateau de Chillon at 15:00, you won’t be leaving Cully, till you board the 18:50 train? If this is correct, all is good and I think you have allowed yourselves everything to be enjoyed at a pleasant pace.

Now you can look forward to arriving and enjoying!

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Maa’m Last check before I boarding

TGV Lyra shows Paris Gare De Lyon to Basel SBB.

So once we get down at Basel SBB, do we need to validate the Swiss Travel pass with station master before we baord the swiss train to proceed to Spiez.

Or This is is auto-validated from 18th May onwards for 15 days.

    Regards, Samir

    Hello again Samir,

In nearly all cases the Swiss Travel Pass is ready for traveling once you’ve received it. If you have a pdf file and it’s saved to your phone or you have a print out copy, you are all set. More information here:

Keep your passport handy too, incase the ticket inspector asks for identification with your Swiss Travel Pass.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda
