Wise debit card to pay for Jungfrau Travel Pass and SBB tickets?

Short summary – read this first

An user named 'Old Guy' is preparing for a trip to Switzerland and is uncertain about using his Wise debit card for purchases, particularly for tickets from the SBB. He wants to clarify if he can use this card, especially for buying a Jungfrau pass and other tickets with his half fare travel card.

Key takeaways:
  • Purchase tickets through the SBB tourist webshop for better acceptance of the Wise card.
  • The SBB app may not accept the Wise card, but ticket machines might.
  • Look for alternative websites that accept foreign credit cards for purchasing travel passes and tickets.

Can someone clarify?  I was intending to use a Wise debit card in Switzerland as I believe it is widely accepted, however  SBB say they do not accept it.
Dr. Google says I can use it to buy a Jungfrau pass but I thought that was sort of through SBB anyway. I will be using half fare travel card thus I will need to purchase a few tickets via the SBB app. Not much point in taking a Wise card if it is not accepted. Can someone clarify for me.
    Thanks

    Hi Old Guy,

In my experience, the Wise card is widely accepted. The last time I was in Switzerland it hasn’t been declined anywhere. It worked in supermarkets, restaurants, and cable car stations. I rarely buy from the SBB domestic website though. Passes can best be purchased from the SBB tourist webshop (the Wise card worked there for me too), or one of the other websites that are geared to tourists and accept foreign credit cards. Our pass pages list all the best purchase options: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/. You’ll find alternative options for separate tickets there too, if needed. Note that the SBB website or app may refuse a card while their ticketing machines may accept it. Either way, there are always alternatives if needed.

The Jungfrau Travel Pass can be purchased from many websites, including here from the SBB tourist webshop. Other options are listed here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/jungfrau-travel-pass/#tickets

    Enjoy your trips!

    Thanks Arno
Very helpful. I did not consider the SBB tourist webshop. That will make life easier
