Hello,  we are going to Domodossola then Lugano  from Zermatt on September 11-12. Because it a 5 1/2 hour train journey and we love Italy  we plan to spend the night in Domodossaola then finish the journey on the 12th. It looks like we can take the R41  via Visp and Brig at 1137 . The next day its the PE 72 at 10:26 to Lugano via Locarno.
Can this be booked as on trip by booking Zermatt to Lugano and getting off and on in Domodossola?
Do we need a reservation on the PE train to Locarno?
does this look like a reasonable plan.
    Thank you, Gary

    Hi garyprc,

Based on your plans, I would book the two journeys separately.
Sep 11 – Point to point ticket from Zermatt to Domodossola. This ticket is valid all day so you can travel at any time and you can break the journey in between,
Sep 12 – Point to point ticket from Domodossola to Lugano via Locarno. This ticket is also valid all day. Seat reservation on the Centovalli Railway train between Domodossola and Locarno is optional (recommended if you are travelling during the weekend). You can find further details here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/centovalli-railway/

Further info about point-to-point tickets here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/tickets/point-to-point/

Please note: If you are travelling with a rail pass such as the Swiss Travel Pass (https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/), you can simply hop on and off the trains. There is no need to purchase tickets.

    Regards,
    Anna
