Zurich accommodation before early morning flight

Short summary – read this first

Harjeet is planning to catch a 7:45 AM flight from Zurich and wants to spend the day before exploring the city. They are looking for advice on whether to stay at a hotel near the airport or in the city center, considering the early flight.

Key takeaways:
  • Staying downtown Zurich is a great option since it's only a 10-12 minute train ride to the airport.
  • Make sure to check the train timetable to ensure timely arrival at the airport.
  • Consider hotels with shuttle services if you choose an airport hotel for convenience.
  • Arriving at the airport early can allow you to grab breakfast at a cafe after security.

    Hi Harjeet,

Zurich airport is only about 10-12 minutes by train from Zurich main station. So you could stay overnight in downtown Zurich and catch a train to the airport to be there by 05:30 or 06:00. Use the timetable to find the connections: https://www.myswissalp s.com/timetable

Here is a list of Zurich hotels we recommend and we note how far from the main station they are: https://www.myswissalp s.com/zurich/hotels

    Hello Harjeet,

A hotel in town will certainly work. If you prefer a hotel closer to the airport with a (free) shuttle service, then see here: http://www.myswissalps.com/zu richairporthotels.

One of the listed hotels on that page is actually at the airport, so you can just walk to the check-in area in minutes: https://www.radissonbl u.com/en/hotel-zurichairport.

<<“In case I stay in airport hotel then will it be easy to visit Zurich City Center?”>>

There are many trains per hour, with the timings noted by Lucas.

If your flight is at 7:45 in the morning you probably have to be there while it is still very dark!! I personally see no point in staying downtown and then arriving at the airport in time for checking in with an empty stomach and sleep breath 🙂

    Hi Tors-

When I have an early flight, I brush my teeth ;-), leave my hotel, and get a bite at a cafe on the other side of security.

    http://www.zurich-airport.com/passengers -and-visitors/shopping-and-attractions/storefinde r-en?loc=land&tab=shops#q=t ab:dc64c979-b07c-4524-b97d-c099cef02473&loc:air

Quite a few open at 0530.

I tend to use the Sprügli cafe – right in front of you after you pass through security in the main terminal.

They have amenu attached to their logo at that link

    It’s one more option.

I’ll admit it is easier to stay downtown if your flight is after 8AM, better 9AM. However, yours is still possible.

Just remember, many airport hotels have shuttle buses which – in some cases – run on a fixed schedule…such as every 20 minutes. And they can take 5 or 10 minutes to get to the terminal.

I have attached a screen grab of early trains and trams from Zürich main station to the airport. We don’t know when you are traveling, so I picked a random weekday in July

There are 4 trains which should meet you needs. Do not take the T10, which is a slow tram, taking 46 minutes. A few CHF cheaper, good for impoverished students and others who have a lot of time and want a slow tram tour of part of the city. 😉

Cabs are expensive. 65 CHF is normal from near the main station. Of course, a cab holds 4 people…..
