We will be staying in Turin, Italy and are thinking of doing a day trip. My husband is an avid amateur photographer and we were thinking of riding the railway as a way to catch a glimpse of the materhorn and the scenery in the area. We were also considering the Riffelsee Lake hike. Is is possible to do either or both of these in one day if we leave Turin early in the day? Are we best to drive or is there a train from Turin? Can we get on and off the Gomergrat bahn railway as many times as we like for one price? Where do we get prices for Gomergrat railway?

Hi mcewena,

It takes about 6 hours to reach the Gornergrat by train. It won't take much less by car, possibly more in case of traffic jams. This is too much for a day trip I would say, especially by car. I'd recommend to stay at least one night in Zermatt.
