Hello,

We are 7 people from India , visiting Switzerland.

We will be in the Interlaken region for 3 nights.

I am getting accommodation in either Wegen or Iseltwald.

which town will be better to stay? Considering travel times between the excursions that we are planning

:

Jungfrau

lakes,

Grindelwald park

All suggestions about excursions in this area are welcome.

Thankyou,

Yolanda

Hello jgsfitness,

Great to hear you will be exploring the Interlaken area.

You can research more activity ideas in the below link - within you will also be able find suggestions on accommodation and how to travel around the area:

Once you have a more concrete idea of what you will be doing during your 3/4 days in Interlaken, you can decide where best to stay. If you and your party will be spending more time in the mountains, then Wengen would be the more practical choice. Were you planning on some hiking, visiting Jungfraujoch too, the Trümmelbach Falls?

Iseltwald is located on the left hand side of Lake Brienz. So if there is a preference to waking up to a lake, enjoying some boat trips and enjoying Interlaken at ground level, then Iseltwald would be the better choice.

Here is the SBB timetable link . Do use it to gauge journey times between your activities and your potential base: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable

Out of interest, have you and your party decided on how you will be traveling around. Will you all have a rail pass or this has not been decided as yet?

I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out with any additional questions.

Kind regards,

Yolanda

Thank you Yolanda.

To be honest we are very confused.Yes we will be taking the 15 day swiss travel pass.

our itinerary is as follows:

Mumbai to Zurich to Zermatt

Zermatt to St Moritz glacier Express

St Moritz two days.

St Moritz to interlaken( long train journey with 3 stops)

Interlaken 3 days

Interlaken to Montreux Golden line express train

Montreux 2 days

Zermatt 2 days

Zermatt to Lake Como 2 days

Milan to Mumbai

We prefer chalets or apartments over hotels.

So in Interlaken, I am not being able to find a suitable apartment or chalet. Thats why have to opt for Wengen or Iseltwald or Griendalwald.

I am looking at convenience in between choosing between the 2 cities, particularly when we don't have too many days but want to do a lot of things, as many as possible.

Yes we are planning on some short hiking, visiting Jungfraujoch the Trümmelbach Falls?

In short we are very confused so need your expert help.

Thanks

Hi jgsfitness,

I'd go with Wengen in your case. It's a bit bigger than Iseltwald, with more facilities and more rental accommodation to choose from: www.myswissalps.com/wengen/rentals. Grindelwald would be equally fine: www.myswissalps.com/grindelwald/rentals.

Do note that renting for only a few nights may limit your options. Some properties do have a minimum stay.

Hello jgsfitness,

That's great you are choosing the Swiss Travel Pass for 15 days. Very practical and convenient.

Here's our handy link for the Swiss Travel Pass:

You'll find all the information you will need, how to use, where it covers, also purchase options.

As you will be traveling to Italy. The Swiss Travel Pass will cover your travel within Switzerland, thereon you will need a ticket from the Swiss border to Milan or Lake Como. More details can be found here:

(You can also take a look at the coverage map for the Swiss Travel Pass in the first link).

Kind regards,

Yolanda

could you also tell me if tickets to Jungfrau, Glacier300 and Matterhron included in the Swiss travel pass? or are there discounts on them if we have a swiss travel pass?

Hi jgsfitness,

All three will require tickets. However, you are eligible for discounted tickets to travel there with your Swiss Travel Pass.

You can look at the "where it's valid' tab, within the Swiss Travel Pass link I provided earlier, scroll down and there is a summary of the more popular inclusions with the Swiss Travel Pass. Jungfraujoch, Glacier 3000 and Klein Matterhorn will be listed. In general, you will find you will need to purchase a discounted ticket for mountain excursions.

The other way to research is via the actual name of the activity. For example key in "Jungfraujoch" or "Glacier 3000" in our search box in the top right corner. All pricing (whether full price or discounted with a rail pass) will be displayed in the "tickets" tab.

Here's one example:

Kind regards,

Yolanda
