    Hi ericz,

Your plan looks fine to me, expect that the Trogen lift is currently closed as far as I know. I’m not sure when you plan to do this.

On Sunday, you could travel to one of the towns along lake Zurich by train, and take a boat to Zurich there. That may work out more efficient than first traveling to Zurich and taking a round trip from there.

Rail passes would cover most of your traveling, including the boats. All information is here.

Thanks for this information. I thought of checking in at the airport on our way to Zurich. Is there a town you recommend?

You can best check the boat timetable (a link to it is here) to see what suits your plans. I just thought you would see more of the lake and save time if you include the boat trip in your transfer to Zurich. For example: take a train to Rapperswil (about 1h30 from Appenzell), walk to the nearby dock and take the boat to Zurich (about 2 hours) there.
