Hello

We are looking forward to a hiking holiday on Switzerland this summer. It is the first time in Switzerland, so we need some inspiration to a not too popular hiking trails with hut to hut accomodation (we like to have some nature for ourselves and not walking in a line).

  • We would like to go mid July
  • Around 7 days/ 6 nights
  • No specific region
  • Stages must not be more than 12-15 km, not more than approx +500 m pr day as we are walking with kids
  • No climbing - I imagine most T1 and T2 trails
  • Huts that can be reserved in advance is preferable
  • Various landscape if possible

Thank you very much!

Hi Steffen,

Welcome to MySwissAlps.

For multi-day hikes, I usually use this site to plan my trips: www.schweizmobil.ch/en. Some of the trails are fairly easy for kids but not all so you might need some time to do your research. To book mountain huts, the Swiss Alpine Club website might be a good starting point.

Be sure to read this for useful tips about hiking in the Swiss Alps: www.myswissalps.com/hiking

Hello Steffen,

You could look into the Via Jacobi: www.schweizmobil.ch/en/hiking-in-switzerland/route-04.html. It's a fairly easy trail with moderate height differences for Swiss standards, although difficulty and height profile vary per stage. The entire trail runs from north-eastern to south-western Switzerland and each segment is worthwhile in terms of scenery. The daily stages are meant for adults though, so they're longer than you'd want for your kids. But you can pick a few stages that match your criteria and cut them into half.

Likewise, the easier stages of the Trans Swiss Trail could work for you: www.schweizmobil.ch/en/hiking-in-switzerland/route-02.html.

This collection of kid-friendly hikes may be useful too: www.myswitzerland.com/en/experiences/summer-autumn/hiking/family-friendly-hikes-search/.
