    Hi,

I’ll be travelling with family (wife and toddler ) mostly from Oct 15 – Oct 21. We will be coming from Innsbruck, planning to take train to Lucerne or Interlaken. Please suggest good options ,confused wether to go with Swiss half fare or Swiss travel pass for 4 or 8 days, as we cannot preplan alot since travelling with baby. we want to spend more time near to interlaken region, which would be good option for us to stay. Is it worth spending more 2,3 days in Lucerne ?

    thanks in advance

You could consider to stay 2-4 days at Mount Rigi, eg in Vitznau and explore from there Lucerne as well as the mountain. From the car free area Mittlerschwanden (part of Vitznau) you can take the train to the top as well as get quickly to Vitznau and explore Lucerne and the lake by boat.

It is also easy to get to Interlaken area from there, using Brünigbahn. Lot of my guests combine Mittlerschwanden and Lauterbrunnen.

    Hi Shahin43,

We always recommend the Swiss Travel Pass to visitors because it’s just more convenient. One ticket for everything. With the Swiss Half Fare card, you still need to buy your tickets from the counter or the machine (albeit at half price) and this can be quite tricky when you are travelling with a little one.

I understand your concern is whether this is the best option considering you are not sure about your travel plans yet. My suggestion is just make a rough itinerary, then work out the details by referring to our practical tips and guides.

Once you have some ideas, then it will be easier to decide which travel pass would be suitable for you and your family

For your information, Swiss public transports in general are quite child-friendly. Most bus and train stations have ramps or lifts for strollers. Some of the SBB trains feature a coach/carriage for families and children, even a playground, usually on intercity trains but not all. Just look for the FA symbol on the timetable or information boards on the platform.

Good luck and we hope to hear from you again.
