    Hi All,

We are a family of 4 intending to travel to Switzerland at the end of June 2017. Our itinerary is as follows:-

Day 1: Arrive Zurich Airport at 7am (purchase Zurich Pass)

    -Full day tour of Zurich

    Day 2: Zurich-Rhinefalls-St Gallen-Appenzell-Zurich

    Day 3: Zurich-Bern-Gruyere-Zurich

Day 4: Zurich-Lucerne-Lauterbrunnen(Still unsure of where to stay at BO)

Day 5: Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn (1/2 day), Eiger Walk (1/2 day)

    Day 6: First (Bachalpsee-Faulhorn-Schnigge Platte-full day)

    Day 7: Kanderstegg (Oeshinensee)-Thun

Day 8: Lauterbrunnen-Zermatt (Gornegrat or Matterhorn)

    Day 9: Zermatt-Geneva-Home (flight at 2130)

We will be staying at Zurich from Day 1-Day 4, Bernese Oberland (BO) Day 4-Day 8) and Zermatt for the last night.

Q1. Is half day sufficient for Appenzell Region on Day 2. We only want to see the scenery at Bergghastaus Aerscher and maybe do a small hike (around an hour or so), is it possible to squeeze in Chur for dinner at the end of the day?

Q2. Appreciate you guys help in fine tuning our itinerary. Any ways to include a scenic rail into our itinerary (i.e. glacier express, glacier express)

Q3. Which is the cheapest data sim available in Switzerland. I had checked at coop seems to have the best vale around CHF25 for 3gb. Are there any cheaper data sim? Will it be cheaper to get a pocket wifi?

Q4. Where to stay in BO. We had narrowed it down to Wengen/Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald.

Q5. Suggestions on where to go should the weather turn foul during our stay at BO.

    Q6. Schilthorn or Jungfrau?

    Thank you in advance!

Hi Julian1989 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

A busy schedule! I will attempt to answer you specific questions below:

    1. Day 2 – You don’t have time to do all that in 1 day. Personally I would skip the Rhine Falls, but that’s up to your personal choice. I wouldn’t worry about seeing Chur either – not all that exciting of a town on its own.
    2. Hard to include one of those panoramic train trips on your current itinerary. The Glacier Express and Bernina Express start in Chur and go to Zermatt or Tirano.
    3. Take a look at our simcard/wifi information page for more details.
    4. Tough call! all 3 are excellent options for you. Check out our information page on the Bernese Oberland for more details and hotel options on all of those towns for you to look at.
    5. Its hard to recommend anything if the weather is bad! All the attractions in this region are outside and the towns are small – perhaps another member has a specific recommendation for you on this one.
    6. Schilthorn. Haha, hard to say. Jungfraujoch is quite expensive – both offer great experiences.

What, if any travel pass are you looking at getting? you may want to look at the Swiss Travel Pass for all the trips you are taking. Take a look at the “where its valid” tab to see more information on areas of use and discounts that can be taken advantage of.

    Cheers,
    Lucas

    Hi Julian1989,

You’ll find some bad weather suggestions on the Interlaken page, for example. You could save your visit to Bern for that purpose. It can be done from Zurich or the Bernese Oberland.

    HI Julian1989,

Also, take a look at our Jungfrau region page for more details on that area as well (nearby towns, what to do and how to travel, etc.)

    Cheers,
    Lucas
