We had a fabulous Switzerland experience with many thanks to MySwiss Alps travel advisers. Planning our own travels we spent time as follows:

First off we purchased a Swiss Pass, based on the advisers suggestion.

Lucerne for 4 nights in a wonderful old town hotel “The City & River Hotel Lucern“. The location was wonderful, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful, the breakfast was very nice and the room looked like an Ikea showroom. The room was small, but very nicely arranged with a small balcony overlooking the river. Bed and pillows extremely comfortable. We were in walking distance to charming restaurants and old town sites. It appeared to have been recently remodeled. If we didn’t walk we took the city bus just a block away. A wonderful stay and the weather was great.

Moved on to Wengen for 6 nights at yet another wonderful hotel ” Hotel & Spa Victoria-Lauberhorn” which has a new name change to Arena’s or something like that. Again, the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. A very nice breakfast was included. Wengen is called a car-less village, however, there are many hotel cars on the village streets. The hotel was so conveniently located across the street from the train station. Some might think it inconvenient to have to take a train to Lauterbrunnen to connect to other areas, but it really wasn’t. It was a good base and a beautiful area. From this home base we traveled by train, bus or cable cars. From Wengen base we visited: Schilthorn, Trummelbach Falls, Murren, Interlaken, Grindelwald and on one rainy day we took the train to Bern for a scenery change (about 2-3 hour train ride). Grindelwald was beautiful and if you take the tram many activities to participate in.

Moved on to Zermatt for 2 nights and another 4 Star hotel “Hotel Mirabeau“. They were so kind as to upgrade our room to a junior suite, which was beautiful with a sizable deck with a beautiful view of the Matterhorn. Another nice breakfast was included. The staff was excellent. Found Zermatt crowded, but charming.

We found dining to be on the expensive side. Most meals were Ala Cart , but usually very good. Having the Swiss Pass made traveling very easy and the bus and train systems were excellent!

Thank you MySwissAlps.com for all your help in planning our trip. We made several changes based on your suggestions and happy we did.

Switzerland is beautiful and loved our visit to the fullest.

Hi Lynn! Thanks so much for your trip report. I’m happy to hear you enjoyed your stay in all those three lovely towns. Weather seems to have been cooperative, since you only mention one rainy day? Bern is a perfect bad weather town indeed. And yes, the Swiss Travel Pass is very easy to use for sure. Happy we could be of help in planning your trip, and your experiences are definitely useful for other travelers.
