    Hi,

We want to do a one day trip on the bernina express in early September. We were thinking Tirano – St. Moritz might be the best option as the round trip journey to Chur or Davos might be too much to do in one day. However, we also want to do the open air carriages but not sure if these run just between St. Moritz and Tirano?

Also is there enough to see at St. Moritz to keep us occupied for one day?

We could stay overnight so would be good to know the best city (ie Chur, Davos, Pontresina?) along the line to stay for a night, with lively nightlife and restaurants etc.

    Thanks!

Hi Albie2018 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

The open-cars are a bit weather dependent but you can see a schedule on the BEX website here: http://www.rhb.ch/en/world-of-railway-experiences/railway-experiences/open-panoramic-cars

The full trip to Chur from Tirano is 4 hours and St. Moritz is about 1/2 way. Are you staying in Tirano the night before or somewhere else?

I would think St. Moritz is your best bet for a good selections of restaurants and nightlife in the area.

Hi Lucas, thanks so much for checking in with us.

ive checked the schedule for the open air trains and it looks like the only open air train we could get is from Davos – Filisur, because we are going on the Sunday 2nd sept and staying overnight in St. Moritz till Monday. We were going to drive to St. Moritz so that we could do a train ride (pref open air) to either Chur or Davos on either Sunday or Monday. Is this correct?

Or should we consider the glacier express? And does that have open air carriages?

    Thanks,

    Julie

Did you check the timetable with RhB? http://www.rhb.ch/en/world-of-railway-experiences/charter-carriages/open-scenic-carriages#overview

It notes they only run in July and August but perhaps it runs into September as well.

I looked at the SBB timetable http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

and found the 10:15 departure from Davos Platz to Filisur is a Nostalgiezug (Notstalgic train). Is that the one you are aiming for on September 2?
