Best arrival airport from Prague to Zermatt?

    Hi,

My husband and I will be visiting Prague and want to go to Zermatt before heading back to the US. I am in the process of booking flights now. My questions is: If we fly from Prague what is the best airport to fly to get to Zermatt? Milan? Geneva? On our previous trips to Switzerland we have not made it to Zermatt because it seems rather difficult to access, but this time we are building it into our itinerary.

Next question, when we leave Zermatt, is Zurich inconvenient to fly home to the US from? We loved Grindelwald and would like to visit again as well as Murren.

We are planning the trip for late March/ early April 2020.

    thank you!

Hello Jfitz and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

Do you need to fly in and out of the same airport? Zurich is not at all inconvenient to fly to the US especially if you want to swing by the Jungfrau Region on your way from Zermatt to the airport.

Use the SBB Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to plan your travel. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on that page. The timetable will give you the fastest routes between A and B by default.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

No, we don’t have to fly into and out of the same airport and actually prefer not to. We like to see as much as possible! Also, is the glacier express open in late March? If so does it go from Zermatt to Zürich or any portion of the trip?

    thank you!!

The Glacier Express (http://www.myswissalps.com/gl acierexpress) indeed operates in March. It runs from Zermatt to St Moritz or you can get off at Chur and continue to Zermatt. But if you go that way you will be bypassing the Jungfrau Region.

I guess it depends on how many days you plan to be in Switzerland.

Hi JFitz! I don’t know how many days you have available, but a trip including everything on your wish list could look like this:

An alternative excluding the Jungfrau region but including yet another beautiful area would be visiting Lake Geneva (http://www.myswissalps.com/la kegeneva) after your stay in Zermatt, and then flying out of Geneva (http://www.myswissalps.com/ai rports/geneva).

Mind to look into rail passes once your itinerary is pretty much set: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass.
