We have bought 1st Class swiss rail pass for 8 days. We plan to travel by glacier express on either 14th or 15th or 16th June 2015 from Brig to Chur. We are reaching Switzerland on 12th June. Can we do reservation after reaching Switzerland on 12th as the date of travel by glacier express is not decided. Or we need to do booking right now. Also, our base is at Grindelwald, is it a good idea to take this segment of Glacier exress from Brig to Chur or do you have any other suggestion?

    Hi parimalj,

Personally I would not do the Glacier Express as a day trip from Grindelwald. It’s too much traveling time I would say. But it can be done (see the timetable). Brig to Chur is the best segment in order to make it back to Grindelwald the same day.

You could have ordered along the reservations along with your pass, as ordering earlier is better for popular trains like this one. You can do it in Switzerland too, but the later you book, the bigger the chance of seats being booked out. If that’s the case you can still travel by the normal trains on the same route though. Please see myswissalps.com/ glacierexpress/tickets for booking links.

    Enjoy the ride!
