    Can anyone please advise :

    1) If there is a specific time period within which tickets can be purchased online ? I was trying to buy tickets today from Wengen to Schilthorn for April 09, but could not.

    2) What are “Train Ticket Agencies” for ? Can I not purchase ticket at any train/bus/cable car station on the spot ? Is there a manned ticket counter at all such stations and can I use credit card to buy tickets on the spot.

    3) Can I purchase ALL point to point tickets (regardless of mode of transport or if they are private railways) on SBB website?

    Thanks !

    1) With SBB it’s typically 30 days. Why buy so far in advance? What happens if Schilthorn is in dense cloud and pouring rain on April 9. Better to see what the weather is doing.

    2) Yes you can buy tickets on the spot at nearly all the places you list. No there is not always a manned ticket office but mostly there is except for very small stations. Credit cards are fine. I’ve never encountered the term “Train Ticket Agencies”.

    3) More or less.

Have you had a look at the SBB Mobile app for smartphones. It’s very handy for buying tickets on the move.

Many thanks for your prompt response rockoyster. I have to keep your advice in mind on not buying the tickets for Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch in advance. Probably I will get a realistic weather forecast a couple of hours earlier when I reach Wengen.

I have planned the first night’s stay at Wengen. It is interesting to note that most of the hotels in Wengen are booked on April 09, the day I need. It is in the map of Wengen that I noticed “Wengen Bahnhof” which is indicated as Train Ticket Agency. I am wondering what they are for.

I still don’t know what a “Train Ticket Agencies” is but Wengen is definitely a manned station so you will have no trouble buying tickets there.
