I know…strange question, but my husband likes to be prepared for anything. Are there special rules in Switzerland regarding carrying a knife while hiking. Are there limits on the size of the knife, the type of knife etc.

    Thanks!

    Hi luvmystang,

I’ve lived in Switzerland for many years and so far I am not aware of any rules that prohibit you from carrying a knife while hiking. In fact, I think this is quite normal here. My 12-year old son is required to bring along a pocket knife (usually a multi-function Swiss Army knife) whenever he goes hiking with his class. So yes, not a problem as long as you’re discreet with it and you keep it safe in your backpack all the time.
