We are coming to Switzerland in May visiting Interlaken and surroundings, Zermatt and Chur.

I tried to get Swiss cash out here in Australia, but it appears to be in short supply. What is the best place in Zurich airport or Interlaken to get cash out at a reaonable rate?

Are credit cards used for the majority of transactions? In Australia we can use them for anything even a coffee.

    Thanks for your help

    Dan

    Hi Dan,

Credit card and debit cards s are widely accepted in Switzerland so it’s not necessary to have a large amount of cash when travelling. I do recommend keeping just a little amount with you for emergencies. You can find practical tips here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swissfranc

Currency exchange services are available at Zurich Airport and most major train stations.

    Regards,

We’ve simply used the bank ATMs in the Zurich airport to get some cash on arrival. You may want to check your credit card issuing bank to determine their policies on international transaction/exchange/ATM fees since some banks offer lower rates than others. We used credit cards for most purchases, but a little cash is always a good idea. For example, the restaurant we visited in Vaduz, Lichtenstein for lunch one day only takes cash. And many of the public toilets require cash (coins) too.

I think the Swiss bank & Post ATMs offer better exchange rates than the currency exchange services.
