Hi there

We're a couple from the UK who will be staying in Leysin for the first two weeks of September. Never been to Switzerland before, have just booked a chalet and know pretty much nothing about anything at this point! We're most likely going to hire a car. We are keen to get out and do some day hikes - mountains, glaciers, wherever the best sites are for scenery, wildlife, etc. Does anybody have any top tips for places to head to? Those not-to-be-missed walks?

Thanks!

Hi Slowman,

Leysin is located on a plateau north of the Rhone valley, but it's still easy to get around by train if you would not hire a car: there's a train down to Aigle in the valley, and from there you can go to Montreux and many other places. There are some hiking trails directly from the village. See here for more information.

Also you can visit the Emosson dam, and there's plenty to do around Lake Geneva and Montreux as well: www.myswissalps.com/montreux/activities. The nearest glacier I can think of is Glacier 3000. The others are much more to the east (e.g. the Aletsch Glacier, and around Zermatt and Saas-Fee).

Hi Arno

Thanks very much for your reply and for the link to http://www.tele-leysin-lesmosses.ch/en/Summer/hikingleysin/moteur-recherche - I hadn't found that site before, so that's great.

Any more ideas, please post!

Thanks :-)
