As time goes on, there is less first class on European trains in general, but nothing has changed on the Swiss rack railways (UK parlance – I’m not a great fan of the US term ‘cogwheel’) . If a railway is ‘one class only’ as most maintain railways are it might show fares for 1st and 2nd class but they will be the same fare

Many thanks for your reply. The fare shows different for the different classes. It is confusing, as most Cogwheel do not have first class, because they are small and most have only one carriage.

Hello Saleh,
If you’d tell us which cogwheel you’re talking about we might be able to give detailed answers, as not all cogwheel trains follow the same “rules”.
Best,
Steph

Hi steph, Mt. Rigi, near luzern, Rochers-de-Naye from Montriux and Schynige Platte. I run through others in the SBB (where it shows different rates for the different classes). website but I can not remember them at this time.
Cheers from Saudi Arabia.

Neither Vitznau to Rigi Kulm or Wilderswil to Schynigge Platte offer 1st class on the SBB timetable I’m looking at. In fact it doesn’t offer the choice to select 1s class on those trips.

I have to double check that again, then. Many thanks.

No, they wouldn’t if you look at just the mountain railway section, but if you input (for example) Bern – Schynige Platte you will get a first class fare (but of course one would only actually ride in 1st class on the main line trains, and the fare will take that into account) .
My guess is that is what Saleh has done.
