QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (last update: 28 July 2022)
Important notes:
- We carefully and frequently update the below information and everything else regarding the coronavirus throughout our website, but none of the information is guaranteed. Always double check with your travel organization and ministry of foreign affairs.
- All of the below applies to traveling into Switzerland. Please check whether your country of residence has imposed any restrictions for outgoing or returning travelers.
- If you need a test in Switzerland, please see http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/planning/about-switzerland/covid-pcr-test/ for test locations. Commercial test centers are available too at Zurich Airport: fly.enderdiagnostics.com. From 12 June 2022, US travelers do not need a Covid test to return home: travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/before-you-go/covid-19_testing_required_US_Entry.html.
1. Can I visit Switzerland?
Yes. There are no more corona-related entry restrictions for Switzerland. The normal entry rules apply to all travelers, as they were before the pandemic.
Check if your home country has restrictions for leaving or returning travelers. If you travel by plane, check if your airline company requires proof of vaccination, recovery or a test.
There is still a Swiss list of countries with a virus ‘variant of concern‘. Theoretically, entry restrictions can apply for travelers from such countries. But at the moment, no country is listed there so this is not relevant.
2. Do I have to show proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test?
No. Proof of vaccination, recovery or a negative test is not required to enter Switzerland. You don’t need such proof to enter restaurants, shops, transportation and other public facilities either.
3. Do I need a Swiss COVID-certificate?
No. There used to be a Swiss COVID-certificate for tourists. But this is no longer required. The Swiss COVID-certificate platform, that used to process certificate requests for tourists, still exists (covidcertificate-form.admin.ch/foreign). But it’s only meant for Swiss citizens wanting to travel abroad now.

5. What’s the current status in Switzerland?
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Public transport to, from and in Switzerland is operational.
A COVID-certificate (see #3) is not required for public transport and not in airport transit areas. You don’t have to wear a face mask anymore.
Some catering zones of trains and boats required a COVID-certificate, but that’s no longer the case.
MEASURES
There are no major restrictions in Switzerland. People diagnosed with COVID don’t have to go into quarantine anymore. If you’ve tested positive for COVID, it’s of course recommended to wear a face mask and keep your distance in order to protect vulnerable people.
Individual companies can still ask for safety and hygiene measures, such as wearing a mask or using hand sanitizers. Swiss cantons may have their own corona-related rules. Please refer to the links under #4 for up-to-date overviews.
