We are taking our first trip to Switzerland in just a few weeks & I’m trying to nail down our itinerary. We will have our toddler with us & would really like to try at least one authentic Swiss dinner & a fondue dinner. Ideally, we would like to have dinner with a view but that isn’t the most important (good food is preferred 🙂

Grindelwald – Best restaurants (you can go to with a toddler) for lunch or dinner?

Zermatt – Best restaurants (you can go to with a toddler) for lunch or dinner?

Lucerne – Best restaurants (you can go to with a toddler) for lunch or dinner?

Bern – Best restaurants (you can go to with a toddler) for lunch or dinner?

    Hi Anew

At lunchtime the best views are normally experienced from the restaurants up in the mountains. They cater for families and include traditional Swiss dishes on their menus ie rosti and apple strudel.A trip up to the Schilthorn is free with your Swiss Travel Pass and there is a revolving restaurant, Piz Gloria, up there that was featured in the James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. It has wonderful mountain views providing you travel up there when it is not shrouded in cloud. Our favourite apple strudel can be found at the restaurant at Brandegg which is on the train journey from Kleine Scheidegg to Grindelwald.

There are numerous cafes and restaurants in the towns that cater for families and offer all types of international cuisine, not just Swiss dishes. They normally display the menu outside so you can see what is on offer before entering. In Lucerne a lot can be found right beside the river with wonderful views of the town, including the Chapel Bridge. In Zermatt you should be able to find somewhere with a view of the Matterhorn and in Grindelwald a view of the Eiger.

    Hope this is of help.

    Jane

    Hi

We had a memorable Swiss fondue at Cafe du Pont in Zermatt. It is a cosy family-run restaurant.

As JaneEB has mentioned, many restaurants to be found on the banks of the Reuss River in Lucerne. If you don’t mind birds, get takeaway lunch to enjoy on a park bench near the lake. Soon you’ll be joined by the sparrows begging for something to eat. They are very tame and will eat out of your hand.
