How does the 9 euro cost of transport work if I have to go to Frankfurt from Zurich round trip?

Hi Lmyuen,

The 9-euro ticket is valid only in Germany. The ticket might be able to cover your trip in Germany, but you would need a ticket for the journey between Zurich and the nearest German border town.

More information about tickets to Germany here: www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/germany

Regards,

Anna

Hi Lmuyen88,

This ticket is only valid for local and regional trains, so you can't use IC, ICE or EC trains. Due to the popularity of the 9-Euro-Ticket, local and regional trains can be full.

You can find connections from Frankfurt to Zurich in the advanced Swiss timetable using the 'Advanced search' function. Uncheck the boxes 'ICE/TGV/RJX' and 'EC/IC'.It will be a 6- to 7-hour journey with several changes of trains. You can read about the timetable and the 'Advanced search' options here: https://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

You'll indeed need an additional ticket for the Swiss portion of the trip: https://www.myswissalps.com/traintickets/switzerland. If you have more travel plans in Switzerland, a rail pass can be better than normal tickets though: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass.

Thank you both for response. Guess I’ll have to go without the 9 eu ticket.

use bahn.de to look it up.

Connection would be Basel Bad Bhf to Frankfurt.

Disable the ICE, highspeed and IR & IRE trains in the search.

For the valid connection you see 9€ as a price

It is little about 5 hours from Basel Bad to Frankfurt with 2 changes.

For Zürich to Basel Bad use another search, maybe on sbb.ch This is about 1.5h

Zurich Stuttgart is faster since the IC trains there codeshare with RE trains, which makes the ticket valid on those trains. That connections Geman part would be Singen - Stuggart.
