Hello Karen and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

    Have you looked at http://www.myswissalps.com/chocolatetrain?

You can do the trip on regular trains for fee with the Swiss Travel Pass.

You need to go Montreux to Gruyéres to Broc Fabrique.

I’m a big fan of the SBB Mobile app (bit.ly/2ICIUHi) to check train, bus, boat and cableway timetables, find fares* and buy tickets on-line if required. In the unlikely event you don’t have a device capable of running the app then you can use the timetable on the SBB website (bit.ly/2HH1U7B). If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions at http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable.

    * The SBB website shows half-fare prices by default, the mobile app allows you to nominate whether to show full or half-fares (by editing the passenger details in settings) and is also smart enough to offer you the Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass) if that offers the best fare. The app also show a platform map (at least at the larger stations) to help you make connections.

    Hi karanmehta,

The prices of the Chocolate Train is listed on the MOB website, as rockoyster pointed out. For everyone’s easy reference, I’ll list it below:

The Chocolate train is a full-day program and includes a train ride from Montreux to Montbovon, then bus transfer to Gruyeres and Broc to visit the cheese and chocolate factories respectively. Full price tickets
    Adult CHF99 (1st class) CHF90 (2nd class)
    Children CHF69 (1st class) CHF 65 (2nd class)

If you have a 2nd class Swiss Travel Pass, you get some discount – CHF69 for 1st class and CHF65 for 2nd class, plus free entrance to the Gruyere castle. Children with the Swiss Family Card or Junior Card pay CHF49 (1st class) and CHF45 (2nd class).

The Chocolate Train runs from May until October. As you will be visiting in April, it is possible to make your own arrangements using the SBB timetable to plan your journey, as suggested by rockoyster.

For information about the Swiss Travel Pass, see here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass
and Swiss Family Card: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard

And for details about the Golden Pass line from Montreux to Interlaken, see here: http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass

Be sure to check these out too:

    Anna

My “You can do the trip on regular trains for fee with the Swiss Travel Pass.” should have said “for free” not “for fee” !

Hello Rockoyster and Anna, thanks alott for your guidance on this.

I am planning to visit switzerland during date 27 March – 9 April. I wanted to know if this would be a good time to visit. How would the weather be, will it be rainy or it would be sunny. Please guide on this.

    Hello karanmehta,

    Thanks for your question!

The best time to visit Switzerland is during the shoulder seasons, between April and June, and September to October, when the weather is at best, and there aren’t too many tourists. The weather like anywhere in the world sometimes has a mind of it’s own. Nevertheless, the dates that you plan on coming to Switzerland will be great! I will include some practical links about the weather in Switzerland and a wonderful weather app (meteoschweiz) for you to consider downloading on your smart phone:

    I hope this helps!

    Best regards,

    Suzanne
