    Hello,

We are flying into Zurich in September and staying in Lucerne. We are very interested in the Golden Pass rail line to Montreux. I’m confused how this works in regards to the journey itself. Do we get off at each of the three stop where we are transferring trains? Do we stay for the day or overnight? Is it three direct trains from Lucerne to Montreux consecutively and how and when do we get back to Lucerne? These are probably basic questions but I wasn’t certain if this was a day trip or a multiple day journey.

Thank you so much for any information you can supply and any assistance you can give

    Best

    Darren

Hello Derain and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

The Golden Pass route (http://www.myswissalps.com/go ldenpass) is a collection of trains. You will change trains along the way.

You can do it as a long day by following the route to Montreux then returning via the faster more direct route.

Use the SBB Timetable (bit.ly/2HH1U7B) to plan your travel. If you are not familiar with using the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on this page – http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable.

On the way there you want Luzern to Montreux via Interlaken and Zweisimmen. On the way back leave out the via stations.

    Thank you rockoyster,

What I’m having difficulty figuring out is if we choose to stay in Interlaken for example overnight, can we still do that and then get back on the train the following day to Montreux? Same if we wanted to stay overnight in Montreux then head back the next day. I suppose I’m asking what is the shortest amount of time and what is the longest amount of time I am allowed to take with this Golden Pass route?

Thank you again for your kindness is reaching out

    Hello Darren,

You can take as long as you like. You would need buy seperate tickets for each leg of the journey on different days. The real MOB Golden Pass Panoramic trains only operate between Zweisimmen and Montreux. The rest of the “Golden Passs route” is is serviced by regular regional trains(as is the Zweisimmen to Montreux leg) and is just a tourism marketing construct.

    Hello Darren,

As Rockoyster says you can stop over on the Golden Pass line as many times and for as long as you want to. You buy train tickets valid by date normally, so you would need a separate ticket for each leg of the journey.

Use the timetable link provided above to find out about detailed travelling times and connections. This should help you decide in how many days you’d like to do this trip.

Alternatively you can look at a customised 3-day tour on the Golden Pass line, including accommodation.
