I am planning a trip toGrindelwald in the second half of September.
    I’ll be staying about 4days.
It’s my first visit to Switzerland.I’m fit, but I haven’t hiked in mountains for long time. I’m lookingfor medium difficulty hikes, not aggressive, but no strolls either.

I’ve chosen Grindelwald foreasy access to hiking trails: First, Pfingstegg, Kleine Scheidegg, Faulhornweg. These walks are described in detail in the guide I’m using.
However, some experienced travellers recommend Wengen over Grindelwald.
I understand that Grindelwaldis very touristic, I’d switch to Wengen to avoid crowds. But is there the samechoice of hikes in Wengen?
    Thank you for any comments.

    Hi

I much prefer Wengen as it is a much smaller resort and with very few vehicles on the roads.

From there there are walks around Mannlichen, from Wengen to trumelbach in the Lauterbrunnen valley, and also all the walks on the other side of the Lauterbrunnen valley – Isenfluh, Grutschalp, Murren, Shilthorn, Blumental, Rotstock hut – there are amazing views from this area. Also walks up the end of the Lauterbrunnen valley from Stechelberg to Obersteinberg and the Oberhornsee.

Have you considered Lauterbrunnen as a base instead of Grindelwald or Wengen. It might be better for you!

    lbiggs,
Yes, I know that Lauterbrunnen is an option. But it’s in the valley, while the views in Wengen are breathtaking 🙂

Believe me the valley in Lauterbrunnen is one of the most magical in all of Switzerland plus the transport, bus, trains, cable cars all in the one area to take you to any starting point for some fantastic walks.I only wish my wife and I were younger and fitter to do what your planning to do.Good luck.
