From Grindelwald my wife and I had planned to take the Kev Reynolds Mannlichen recommendation, but the Berghaus Mannlichen has no accommodations available the night we plan to be there. So we would need to proceed from Mannlichen down to Wengen / Lauterbrunnen and stay there.

Given no accommodations at Mannlichen, are there any opinions on taking the Alpiglen / Kleine Scheidegg route rather than walking to Mannlichen then down to Wengen / Lauterbrunnen? We are strong hikers with home base in NH White Mountains. THANK YOU

Hi TomQtraveler,

The Jungfrau region is pretty small. Wherever you decide to hike and wherever you decide to stay, it will work just fine. You can walk from Grindelwald to Männlichen like you planned, and take the cable car down to Wengen instead of staying the night. Or you can walk from Alpiglen to Kleine Scheidegg and take the train to Wengen (or walk). There are many options: myswissalps.com/ jungfrauregion/ activities.

I am in Wengen now. There is space at a few hotels in town. Actually when we checked in yesterday the innkeeper said there had bee cancellations in all the hotels because the forecast is rain for the next two days. The valley is filling up now with clouds.

Thank you all for your advice! We will trek thru Männlichen and then down to Wengen to stay for the night.

Hope the weather is good enough to make that a splendid hike.
