Hello, is it safe to hike to Toma Lake in early May from Andermatt or Disentis? I’m thinking there could be snow. Is it worth the hike or is it too dangerous?

Hi Suzi, and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Definitely not in early May at that altitude.

Online sources about this hike describe its season as July to October. The site below suggests it can be done from mid-June, but at that time, you are likely to encounter some fields of snow in places.

Thank you so much AlpenRose666. I think I’ll have to skip this trek this time and come in the summer. It sounds like there’s lots of snow and probably isn’t safe. I don’t think I will stay in Andermatt. 🙁

No, hiking paths at Oberalp will be closed in early May. Your proposed trip is really a mid summer activity
