If traveling to Milan to Interlaken – (have swiss pass) is it best to get train ticket in advance or can we be spur of the moment? Advantageous or disadvantageous?

    Thanks!

    Hi CJ5,

I’d say buying a ticket in advance would save you money (the further in advance the cheaper it gets for international tickets). Though at some point it may not save you too much.

Also, you only need a ticket from Milan to the Swiss border if you have the Swiss Travel Pass (Chiasso or Domodossola depending on the train you take).

Ok got the first part so when getting off train in Domodossola – we then just get on any swiss train to interlaken? I assume we have to show swiss pass to someone.

Yes, you will almost certainly need to change trains in Domodossola. The timetable will tell you what the connections are on the train you decide to take. There will for most likely at least be one more change in Brig.

You show your Swiss Travel Pass (not a Swiss Pass as that is something else) to train staff when asked on the train. Before Domodossola show the ticket from Milan. After Domodossola you can just show the Swiss Travel Pass.

Great thanks! last question for return back to milan is it best to book that ticket in advance from Swiss border? Is price much different if we want to be flexible and not lock ourselves into a specific time?

Same idea…usually cheaper the farther in advance you book. check prices out and see what differences are for tomorrow compared to two months from now…to see what to expect.
