Hi Shankar,
1. The Swiss Travel Pass is valid for boat trips on Lake Brienz: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity. There is no need to make prior seat reservation for regular trips. However for special evening cruises such as the sunset cruise with dinner, advanced reservation is recommended. You can check out the details here: Special Cruises on Lake Brienz
2. If you wish to upgrade to 1st Class, you can purchase an upgrade ticket at the ticket counter before boarding. You can find more details about this here: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/practical/2nd1stclass
3. Some cruises are more popular than others. In any case, reservations are required for all special cruises.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Anna

1. We have a Swiss Travel Pass. Do we still need to buy any tickets or reservation for that particular cruise that is in the evening.
You can board directly if you have STP. Ground deck is for 2nd class while first floor deck is for first class.
2. And if we prefer a first class upgrade in the cruise where and how does one get the upgrade tickets ?
You can do it at boarding counter or while on cruise. For me, i found 2nd class deck at par considering views !
3. Do the cruises get full ? Or would it be possible to just walk in and board them ?
You can walk in. Did it multiple times, it was never full.

Hi Shankar,
For normal boat rides on Lake Brienz, you don’t need a ticket or reservation if you have a Swiss Travel Pass. Just hop on and off as you like, that’s all.
But things are work differently for special cruises. Are you referring to this one: http://www.bls.ch/en/freizeit-und-ferien/schiff/schiff-brienzersee-abendrundfahrt-dampfschiff? You’ll have to pay for the meals in any case, no matter which type of pass or ticket you have.
According to the information under “Rates”, the ride itself is free for holders of a GA (Generalabonnement). This is a pass used mostly by Swiss residents, and it provides discounts very similar to the Swiss Travel Pass. So I’m pretty sure this applies to you as a Swiss Travel Pass holder too, and that you have to pay for the meals only and not for the ride. But to be 100% sure, you can best check with the boat operator BLS. You’ll find their e-mail address at the page I linked to above.
