Train from Lauterbrunnen, hike Winteregg to Murren

Short summary – read this first

Leecsjimmy is planning a family hike from Winteregg to Murren, asking whether it's possible to take the train directly to Murren from Lauterbrunnen and hike back. They want advice on the timeframe needed for the hike, especially with two kids aged 9, and whether visiting in late September is a good idea.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider hiking the full route from Grutschalp to Murren for better views.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass is a good option for transport, covering many routes, including the train from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen.
  • Check the restaurant's opening hours in September, as it might be closed.
  • Factor in extra time for breaks when hiking with kids; the hike typically takes around 1.5 hours.

i read from somewhere that the hike from Winteregg to Murren is very scenic. what the author did was took a train to Winteregg restaurant, had their meals, and hike to Murren, and probably train down back to Lauterbrunnen.

will it make sense to train straight from Lauterbrunnen to Murren, and hike back to Winteregg restaurant, and train down?

i presume both of the above is possible? how much time will i need to set aside for the hike for a family with 2 kids around 9 years old?
