I’m a bit confused about the luggage service times being shown on the SBB website for Montreux to Luzern. The website is showing that Express Service will take an extra day, rather than being same day service like other connections (e.g. Bern to Luzern, Montreux to Interlaken. Is there a reason for the extra day or is the SBB website incorrect? We are planning to take the train along the Golden Pass Route from Montreux to Luzern on May 30, 2018 and I had hoped to use the Express Luggage Service so that we didn’t have to worry about it on the first leg where there is temporary bus service.

Hello Lnzwicker and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

The Express Delivery service is same day. “. . . . you check-in your luggage using the express service by 9 a.m., and collect it from your destination station from 6 p.m. on the same day.”

If you are trying to use the Luggage Delivery Calculator it is misleading because it doesn’t work for Express Delivery. It doesn’t actually seem to work at all really. Not the finest piece of Swiss engineering.

Just a note: we used the service in reverse (Lucerne to Montreux) and also from Montreux to Wengen. Very efficient.

You can also take your luggage the evening before (check times) if you want don’t want to worry with it in the morning. Our luggage always arrived at our destination prior to 6 pm. It was a great option when you are doing train journeys that require multiple changes and/or you wish to stop and have lunch or tour a city on your journey. It was, in our opinion, well worth the expense of sending luggage express. Make sure you ask the times of the specific luggage drop off and pick up at each City, as they do vary (for example, Wengen’s times for drop off and pick up were different than Lucerne and Montreux, with pick up not open as late as Montreux.)
