Hi Arpnagogia,
It’s really up to you if you need (extra) medical insurance. It depends on what your own insurance covers abroad. Do check that as medical treatment in Switzerland isn’t cheap.
Emergency numbers (112) and more can be found here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ab outswitzerland/practic al/websites.

Will you be hiking in the mountains?
For what it is worth, I belong to a mountain rescue service:

If you are not a member, they will still rescue for a lot more CHF than the membership does. Helicopter services are expensive…..
You other choice is to not fall of a mountain….

A visitor to Switzerland can become a patron of Rega for a minimum contribution of CHF 30. Rega is a non-profit organization and those who would like to support their activities can make any donation they wish or even make testamentary gifts in their wills. I highly recommend that visitors to Switzerland who plan to be hiking or skiing up in the mountains become patrons of Rega. More information is to be found at the link provided by Slowpoke.
Here is a link to Rega’s 2019 Annual Media Conference, which includes an interesting bit about their new autonomous search drone: http://www.rega.ch/en/media/p ress-releases/detail.aspx?id=3160

Hello Slowpoke,
<< REGA only provides rescue service. You must have a way to pay for medical services. >> This is the case for foreigners who are visiting Switzerland. As I mentioned previously, the annual contribution to become a patron is CHF 30, although you are free to donate more if you wish to support their activities. There are over 3.48 million patrons of Rega, an amazing number.
For Swiss nationals or residents who are abroad and patrons of REGA, they have a repatriation program and a fleet of three Challenger CL-650 air ambulances, their Rega Jets. http://www.rega.ch/en/swiss-air-ambulance/fleet.aspx They previously had CL-604s, and two of these were sold to the Swiss Air Force.
