Meeting fellow travelers on Swiss trip

I’m enjoying a lovely solo stay at a friends’ place in Zurich for a month, and doing many wonderful day trips by rail, but I would love to connect with a local or a fellow traveler for a coffee or a hike. Does anyone have advice on how best to do this?

I looked at Meet Up but it is geared towards young people (I’m a middle aged female.)

    Hi SteelyD,

If you are interested in sightseeing with a local guide, perhaps you can try this free walking tour in Zurich. http://www.freewalk.ch/zurich/index.php
I have no personal experience in this but have read that it is quite interesting. Maybe the local guide will be able to offer some tips about connecting with local English-speaking travelers.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hi SteelyD,

I agree with Anna that getting in touch with a local guide is a good start. He or she might be able to refer you to other contacts. Guided tours, during which you can get in touch with other travelers, can be found at http://www.myswissalps.com/plantrip/escortedtours. Privately guided tours are listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/plantrip/privatetours. You can also ask your hotel and/or holiday apartment owners for tips (http://www.myswissalps.com/accommodation).
