My girlfriend and I are heading for Switzerland soon and we purchased a 15 day Swiss Travel Pass. We are assuming that we are simply going to be jumping on and off trains when we please, but that there might be some trains that actually get booked in advance. (I am thinking of the popular scenic trains or up to the mountain tops).

My question is should we be already pre-purchasing certain train tickets or should they all be done the same day?

My itinerary is the following:

  • Day 1 - Zurich Airport - Zurich (Single) (10 min train)
  • Day 2 - Zurich - Boat Tour
  • Day 3 - Zurich - Lucerne Train (Single) (48 min train)
  • Day 3 - Lucerne - Mount Rigi (Round Trip)
  • Day 4 - Lucerne - Mount Pilatus (Round Trip)
  • Day 5 - Lucerne - Wengen (Single) (3 hour train)
  • Day 6 - Wengen - Jungfraujoch (single)
  • Day 7 - Wengen - Interlaken (Round trip)
  • Day 8 - Wengen - Grindelwald (Round trip)
  • Day 9 - Wengen - Montreux (Single) (3 hour 30 min train)
  • Day 10 - Montreux (Walking around the village)
  • Day 11 - Montreux - Geneva (Single) (1 hour 15 min train)
  • Day 11 - Geneva - Boat Tour
  • Day 12 - Geneva - Geneva Airport (10 minutes train ride)

Thank you!

Hi Soccortom919,

Basically you just hop on and off, and buy a ticket on the spot when there's a discounted section. Please see here for further information:
