    Hi,

We are planning to visit Switzerland and Milan in late Sept. We will buy a 2 for 1 promotion Swiss pass. Do we need to have seat reservation for the train to Milan? Could we use the Swiss pass from Zermatt to Milan (or how much we need to pay for the route to Milan)?

    Thanks!!

    Carmen

Hi Carmen. Your Swiss Pass will be valid up to the Swiss/Italian border. Depending on your train connection, this is most probably Domodossola. So you’ll have to buy an additional regular ticket Domodossola-Milan. The downloadable map at the Swiss Pass page shows the area of validity. Fares can be found in the timetable I linked to as well.

Some trains crossing the border require seat reservations indeed. These FAQ tell you how to find out whether this is the case. The seat reservation page may provide helpful information too.
