Question on Swiss Transfer Ticket Combi

Hello again! I have one final question about the Swiss Transfer Combi ticket please. We are traveling (2 adults, 2 kids under 12) on July 30 from Rome to Wengen and see that the route is from Rome-Milan-Spiez -Interlaken and so on. I would like to ask which portion we should reserve in advance. Rome-Milan seems compulsory but I am confused about Milan-Spiez due to the Transfer ticket: if we reserve and pay for this portion in advance, how is the Transfer ticket useful for the segment that is inside Switzerland?
