    Hello all,

    first time here. I’m going to Switzerland from March 4th-11th

    trip is as follows:

    Zurich -> Zermatt (03/04)

    Zermatt -> Lucerne (03/08)

    Lucerne -> Zurich (03/09)

    We leave Zurich on 3/11

    trying to figure out which travel pass I need to buy, and since I’m staying in Zermatt for 4 days, do I need to buy a pass for a longer duration? We plan on using the pass’ discounts in the alps and Zurich. I thought I had this all figured out but I cannot seem to get the correct info, and I would love some help here.

    Thanks in advance!

    Love from NYC

    Hello stormsurge and Welcome to MySwissAlps.

    The bad news is, if you want to know for sure which is the best pass you need to work out your itnerary in detail including train, bus, boat, cable car trips etc. Then you can use the Swiss Train Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable) to work out the fares for each trip. When you go to buy a ticket the fare you see on the right hand side of the page will normally be the half-fare price. Double it to get full fare. With A Swiss Travel Pass it is free provided it is shown as free on the Area of Validity map ( PDF downloadable from http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity).

    You should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass).

    The good news is there is an easy way out. If you can’t be bothered with all that and just want the ultimate in convenience buy and 8-day Swiss Travel Pass.

    What time are you leaving Zurich on the 11th? If anywhere approaching midday then stay in Lucerne 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th. It is one hour from Lucerne to Zurich Airport and there’s much more to do in and around Lucerne.
