Regional-Pass Bernese Oberland for return trips?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a trip to the Bernese Oberland region in Switzerland and is seeking clarity on the free travel routes covered by the Regional Pass Bernese Oberland. They are confused about the validity of round trips, specifically if the Mürren to Allmendhubel route is free for the return journey as well.

Key takeaways:
  • The Regional Pass Bernese Oberland provides unlimited travel for return trips between the mentioned destinations.
  • For clarity on free routes, check the validity map where free routes are shown with a continuous line.
  • Remember, if a route is quoted one way, it usually implies round trip validity with the travel pass.

    Hello,

I’m planning to visit Switzerland. Specially, bernese oberland region.

I’ve already checked the validity of routes. But there is some confusions. For example, it says Mürren – Allmendhubel is free. I understand that if I go to Allmendhubel from Murren then its free. But it doesn’t say that Allmendhubel to Murren return is also free. That is where my confusion is. Is it one way free? Or its free for return as well? Some of the routes are given below as oneway/round trip. Please let me know if all of these routes are free with the pass.

    Interlaken to Wilderswil (return trip)

    Interlaken to Kandersteg (round trip)

    Interlaken to Grindelwald (return trip)

    Grindelwald to Mannlichen (round trip)

    Grindelwald to pfingstegg (round trip)

Interlaken to Brienz ( round trip)

    Interlaken to Lautebrunnen (one way)

Lautebrunnen to Gimmelwald to murren to Lautebrunne

    Lautebrunen to wengen (return trip)

    Hi RM10,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

The Regional Pass Bernese Oberland provides unlimited travelling between all the places you mentioned. So yes this covers return trips. You can find more information here: http://www.myswissalps.com/regionalpassberneseoberland/validity

You can also download the validity map from the same link. The routes which entitle the holder to free travel are marked with a continuous line. A reduced-price ticket is required for travel on routes with a dotted line.

Hope this clears your confusion. If you need more details to plan your trip, let us know.

    Regards,

    Anna

I think you are overanalysing the situation causing yourself unnecessary confusion.

The convention in the travel and tourism industry is only to express a transport route one way, so as to avoid having to write, say or print too many words. So for example if a route is quoted as ‘Bern – Zurich’ this will imply travel in both directions is possible. When related to ‘rover’ aka ‘go anywhere travel pass’ tickets this means validity applies for both directions
