    Grüezimitenand!
Sorry couldn’t resist! We are here in Switzerland – been here a week. It’s hot! So not doing anything energetic. Arrived safely Tues last – our kind host met us at the station and helped with our luggage. We then borrowed their shopping trolley so we could bulk buy water etc while shopping at Co-op. On Wed we went to the market to get fresh salad stuff and fruit, then went to Interlaken tov isit Gabriela Schild and raid the tourist office for leaflets!, took boat back to Thun. Thurs we went to Schaffhausen to visit Rhine Falls – we took boat trip up the river (to keep cool!). Fri went to St. Gallen as we wanted to visit the famous library at the cathedral – very impressive as is the cathedral itself. Sat spent whole morning in Thun as they were having a barrel-organ/hurdy-gurdy festival – dozens of them large and small being operated by ladies and gents in costume –that was great fun, then in afternoon went to Sigriswil by bus to see new suspension bridge and walk across it over gorge – they have plans for others round Lake Thun to create possible complete route round lake. Sun we went to church in Interlaken then to escape heat went up to Murren and up to Allmendhubel, one of our favourite places. Mon was also hot so we went up Niesen – still quite hot up there! Nice views though, then we took train to Kandersteg and went up by cablecar to Sunnbuel. Yesterday (Tues) we spent all day on a cruise on Lake Zurich – while on the move a welcome breeze across lake though when we stopped at the landing stages we could feel how hot it was on shore. Last half hour or so of cruise wind really got up and it was quite stormy though we escaped worst of rain.
So that’s a week gone and three to go! Weather forecast is for more heat (even 30+ at weekend) except forZermatt where it has been raining for a month and still raining for at least another week. I keep checking weather every night to help decide next day’s plans.
    Will send further report later!
    Maggie

    Grüezi Maggie,

That sounds like a great start of your holiday. You managed to do quite a lot despite of the temperatures! I’ve also heard about the plans for new trails around Lake Thun. That would be great, as right now one mostly has to climb up the hill, walk for a while, and descend again. I suppose you already did the hike from the Niederhorn down to Waldegg?

Looking forward to the rest of your report. Enjoy Thun and the rest of the Alps!
