We have purchased Swiss Passes and will be taking the Chocolate Train and the Golden Pass Panoramic Train. I just completed on line reservations for each of these in early June. The process was less than easy. All reservations can be made on the Golden Pass website http://www.goldenpass.ch

For reserving the Golden Pass trains one simply needs to reference the SBB timetable (http://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html) choose Montreux to Zweissimen and "show all details" of the trip. From that website you can get the time and train number you want. The website will tell you whether it is the Golden Pass panoramic or belle époque train and the time. There is only one train daily from Montreux directly to Interlaken Ost (without changing trains) as far as I can tell. Most the Golden Pass trains only go from Montreux to Zweissimen and then you must book a further train to Interlaken. Most of those trips require a change of trains at Spiez.

For booking the Chocolate Train one must select Montreux to Montbovan (although the train actually goes further than that). You can tell you have selected the chocolate train by the railcar configuration and the price (59 Francs with a 2d class Swiss pass or 99 Francs for the ticket) as the trip from Montreux to Montbovan is normally less than 7 CHF.

Hopefully this helps anyone trying to reserve these trips.

Thanks for sharing this! Booking seats is done via the websites of the rail company running the particular train, and some are more user friendly than others. This one is not very easy indeed. By the way, one always needs to change trains in Zweisimmen, there are no exceptions. But from December 2016 the change will no longer be required and there will be direct trains Montreux - Interlaken.

For other readers: Booking links are on the reservation page.

Enjoy the ride!
