Hello myswissalps,

I am interested in the best way to trace my mother’s family in Switzerland. I have a copy of my mother’s Swiss Birth Certificate (issue date1953, although she was born before that), where she was born (ist geboren worden zu Biberist, Bleichenberg), the name of her father and mother, her father’s Kanton where he was from (von Worb, Kanton Bern), her father’s residence (Wohnhaft in Biberist, Bleichenberg), and what I imagine is the document of record (Für richtigen AusZug aus Band 1925, Seite 2XX, Nr. 2X).

Where can I begin my search for mom’s family while I am here in Switzerland (for one week)? What Swiss online sites should I use now, nd when I am back in the United States next week.

Based on the information you have, the best place to start your search would be Gemeinde Biberist in Kanton Bern. Perhaps you can write a short email and make an enquiry. You can find the contact details on the website: http://www.biberist.ch/
