Hi =)

We are a group of 4 persons (from Singapore & Malaysia) and will be travelling from Salzburg to Switzerland in mid of Oct and stay for 3 days and subsequently travel to Germany on the 4th day. We are thinking to get 4 days Swiss Saver Pass and will need your advice on the following:
1. If we buy the pass when we reach Switzerland, can we buy the pass from ticket vending machine? Or we must purchaseit from counter and have to take note of the operating hours of the counter?
2. Is there any difference if we get a pass for a group of 4 persons or 2 passes for 2 pairs
3. We are interested in golden pass route and we will be staying in Lucerne. Do you think we are able to cover the whole trip (i.e. Lucerne - Montreux - Zweisimmen - Interlaken - Lucerne) in a day?
4. With the Swiss pass, is there any discount for the international tickets? Say, from Salzburg to Lucerne. If not, should we take train from Salzburg to Buchs so that we can maximise our pass?

Many thanks!!

Hi PW123,

1. You can't buy passes from the machines. You need to go to a manned station during opening hours. In your case it's easier to buy online, so you can just stay seated in the train from Austria to Switzerland. From Singapore/Malaysia, you can get the pass here or here.
2. The only difference is that the two groups can travel apart from each other if you buy two sets of two.
3. It's possible but it will be a long day. See the timetable for details.
4. You get free traveling on the routes as indicated on the map. The map can be downloaded from the Swiss Pass page. You need regular tickets (or another pass) for routes that are not included.

Have fun!
