Swiss Travel Pass and TGV train ticket

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning to buy an 8-day Swiss Travel Pass and TGV train tickets from Basel to Paris via the SBB website. They are unsure about discounts for Swiss Travel Pass holders on TGV and if the pass falls under the GA category. They seek clarification on these points.

Key takeaways:
  • Buy the Swiss Travel Pass from authorized retailers, not the SBB website, as they don't cater to tourist passes.
  • The Swiss Travel Pass is only valid within Switzerland and does not apply for travel to Paris from Basel.

You should buy the Swiss Travel Pass from one of the retailers listed at http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/price. SBB is not geared to tourist passes.

Basel is effectively at the Swiss/French border so the Swiss Travel Pass does not come into play for your travel to Paris. The Swiss Travel System passes only operate within Swiss borders.
