    Hi
We are planning a holiday in switzerland in December – between 1 december and 20 December – probably 12 days (heading to rovanemi for christmas)

We haven’t been to Switerland before, and looking for suggestions on great places to go – with a 4 year old. So only want to stay at 3 places in switzerland but with minimal travel time for day trips (we will go back to switzerland so don’t feel we need to do everything in one trip.

    We don’t ski etc.

When we travel we like to find museums or similar with children activities/programs; places that do craft etc – things to break it up for him. Any suggestions you have on places like these would be great and generally places that are the most beautiful in Switerland – but not all ski fields given we don’t ski – so need some other options.

    Thank you so much.

That time in December is not great as it is sort of between seasons in many places. If the snow has come, the skiing season may have started in some places, if it has not, things will probably be very quiet and many of the mountain railways etc. wil be closed.

One place which is certainly worth a visit with little ones is the Transport Museum at Luzern http://www.verkehrshaus.ch. Lots of handson experiences for children and my 5 children have certainly enjoyed it over the years.

Hi Amanda. I would focus on a few small cities if I were you, such as Lucerne and Interlaken, as these offer kids’ activities. In the Jungfrau region, consider the Jungfrau Park, the indoor swimming pool, the daily chocolate show at 17pm at Grand Restaurant Schuh and woodcarving demonstrations (please contact Interlaken Tourism for specifics). Lucerne offers the Traffic Museum and the Glacier Garden. Both towns have stunning surroundings; making boat trips and cable car rides will be great fun for kids too. Consider boat rides over lake Lucerne and lake Thun, scenic train tips up to Rigi, Kleine Scheidegg and maybe the Jungfraujoch, and cable cars to Pilatus and Schilthorn.
