Hello,

My wife and myself are planning our traintrip from Zurich Airport to St Moritz. Both 60+ and no experience in traintravelling in Switzerland apart from Geneva Airport (free trainticket in Airport) to Geneva City.

So we wonder how to book best and at best rates our tickets and if special fares apply for 60+ or 65+ in Switzerland. Is price and comfortdifference important between 1st class and 2nd class ? Cheaper prebooking / online or in station ? What if plane is delayed with prebooked seats as we arrive by plane on March 25th in the morning from Brussels ( ETA around 9/9.30am) ? Timetables ?

We want to travel straight from airport to Zurich HBHof and from there St Moritz via Chur I guess. Stay in St Moritz ( Kempinski Hotel) and leave on March 29th to catch train Zurich Airport for return flight around 7pm.

Is there free wifi onboard the train or in trainstations ?

No special fares apply for 60+ and older. It’s not needed to buy tickets for normal regional trains in advance. You won’t get any better rates. Should you be taking the Bernina Express from Chur, please keep in mind that you need to book your seats in advance. You can do that here: http://www.myswissalps.com/be rninaexpress/tickets.

Since it looks that you’re not doing a lot of traveling during your stay, it might be interested to have a look at the Swiss Transfer Ticket: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstransferticket. The Swiss Transfer Ticket is a return ticket from the Swiss border or one of Switzerland’s airports to your destination and cost around CHF 151,-.

Hi Eric,

Chantal mentioned the Bernina Express but I don’t think the restricted winter timetable (http://www.rhb.ch/en/panorami c-trains/bernina-express#info) will work with your arrival departure timing in either direction.

Regular regional trains follow the same route between Chur and St Moritz. Going one way via Filisur and the other way via Samedan and Landquart provides a nice bit of scenic variety.

Some hotels in St Moritz include this pass http://www.engadin.stmoritz.c h/winter/en/services/o effentlicherverkehr/ga esteabo/ as part of their package.

If you want to have on-line access while on the move I can recommend the CHF10 Salt Prepay SIM. The CHF20 credit will cover your data requirements for you entire stay provided you don’t burn up the credit with phone calls. You can buy it at the Salt Shop at Zurich Airport.

I checked with St. Moritz Tourism, and if I understand their answer correctly the Guest Travel Card needs to be purchased, but some hotels offer a different pass for free: http://www.myswissalps.com/st moritz/travel
