    Hello,

We are locked in on traveling to Switzerland from Oct29-Nov5. We are mostly interested in seeing the mountains, and doing some hiking and exploring. I’ve searched and found that the Interlaken area is not the best place to be in November as far as scenic hikes are concerned, and the majority of restaurants and hotels are closed. We are looking to stay in either AirBnB, hotels or both. We would like to eat a at a few restaurants, but are perfectly happy with going to markets and trying different foods ourselves.

I’m really looking for recommendations on what region/regions to visit to be able to take in some mountain/lake/river views while hiking, and somewhere that will be quiet, but have at least something open so we can eat and experience the culture. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hi TB1215 and welcome to MySwissAlps!

Hiking is really limited to lakeside, valley walks – by the end of October most hikes will be closed (hence why a majority of hotels and restaurants are also closed).

You are arriving after the hiking season ends but before the ski season begins – so it will be quiet. Most mountain trips are still possible though and some limited walks at the top as well.

Luzern and / or Montreux are good cities to look at first I think:
