We woke up ready to spend our first full day in the mountains and it was overcast and a bit drizzly. I knew we should go down on the train and do something like the waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen or a boat trip on a lake. But G wasn’t keen on that and wanted to do a walk nearby, so we decided to take the cable car up to Mannlichen. It wasn’t a good idea.

As we ascended it really started raining. But we were up there and so decided to walk down to Kleine Scheidegg. The rain stopped and then started intermittently. It was a waste of time as cloud obscured most of the views. After getting back to Wengen on the train I decided we could salvage the day by doing a boat trip on Lake Thun.

This was a good idea – the weather started to improve while we were on the boat and it was a very peaceful and scenic way to spend a couple of hours. We chose Lake Thun as we’d done a boat trip on Lake Brienz in 2013.

We took the train back to Wengen via the beautiful Lauterbrunnen Valley, hoping for better weather the next day.

We enjoyed the Alpenrose too, wonderful hotel and setting.
