Planning for 3 weeks in Switzerland I’m considering renting the wifi hub to get unlimited data in case free wifi isn’t available where I am going.

Does anyone have experience with it?

Is it easy to use and reliable. Is it easy to pick up (you can pick it up at the airport)?

    Helene

Hi Helene I’ve used Traveler’s WiFi in Canada and it was fantastic (there are European and Global versions as well). Site owner Arno has used it in Switzerland and thought it was great and faster than hotel WiFi.

You can pick it up at the airport which is what I did (on my way out of Switzerland) or have it delivered to your hotel as well.

With an iPhone & Verizon service in the US, would one need something in addition to Traveler’s WiFi to have phone service in Switzerland?

    Hi kfordco,

If you want to use your data plan from Verizon it would get very expensive unless they have a travel plan of some sort.

    Ok-so I’m a dinosaur-I just want to clarify-

I would use the travelers wifi as a hotspot for my phone or ipad and can then facetime or Skype with either?

So I’m confused. Would the Traveler’s Wifi would be just for using my phone to access the internet while in Switzerland? And I’d have to get some kind of Swiss phone service to send/receive text messages & phone calls? Thanks!

    Yes, that will work.

The Traveler’s Wifi gives you a Wifi signal to connect to. Then use your phone or Ipad as normal once connected to its wifi

Traveler’s Wifi is for WiFi yes. So just internet access for your phone, iPad or computer.

I do use it to text and make phone calls with WhatsApp so all I need is WiFi though. I only use my phone to make “normal?” calls when I need to call my dentist or retail store or something like that.
I actually forgot how to use my phone (as a phone) last year when I needed to call my cell phone provider in Switzerland! haha.

If you want to make phone calls from your phone without using the internet (as a normal phone in other words) you’ll need a local SimCard (https://www.myswissalps.com/planning/practical/mobile-internet/)
